Hamlet: Revenge

I believe that revenge is never a good thing. It does not help in healing personal trauma. Instead, it creates an even bigger problem for the person who is seeking revenge. I think that if someone does seek revenge, then the end result would be that they wouldn’t feel better at all, in fact, it may even damage their emotional well-being even more. For example, if someone hurt your loved one and you hurt them back, you probably wouldn’t feel any better. Hurting that person didn’t magically heal your loved one and it most likely caused pain to the other person’s family and friends. Rather than feeling accomplished, you would feel depressed and empty, as though they have only made the situation worse. I strongly believe that revenge is never justified; forgiveness is always the better path. Forgiveness allows you to move on with your life. I think that the difference between “avenging’ and “revenge” is that avenging means to inflict harm on another on behalf of someone else; meaning that you seek to harm someone because they harmed someone you know. However, revenge means to inflict harm on another because they wronged you. In summary, avenging is on behalf of another person and revenge is instigated by you.
